The archives that have been presented through the ARENA project are a good representation of the different types of archive generated in archaeology. It was interesting to note that all the partners faced common problems, problems that can be addressed by providing access to archives. This access depends upon preservation and vice versa. Also, reflection on the ARENA project allows us a glimpse of the types of archive in different European locations which are in themselves characteristic of archaeological practice and perhaps a form of national identity, in this case a sense of identity that crosses the conceptual boundaries in Europe through the ARENA portal. It is hoped that the ARENA project has demonstrated successfully a common access point to archaeological resources and Europe's heritage.
