4.4.34 Melton Ross, Lincolnshire

The 'productive site' at Melton Ross lies close to an east-west route through the Lincolnshire Wolds, and on Middlegate Lane, an ancient north-south track. The parish boundary makes a deviation, adjacent to the site. There is also an ancient gallows site nearby, and a possible wapentake centre at Yarborough Camp. Aerial photographs show a series of enclosures and double-ditched enclosures of Butterwick type. There are Early, Middle and Late Saxon finds, including settlement debris. The VASLE dataset is derived from the EMC and the PAS.
