Shalfleet is a village and civil parish on the Isle of Wight, 8km east of Newport. It is located on a creek of the Solent, formed by the navigable River Newton, and the bay is accessible to shipping.
An Anglo-Saxon cemetery at Chessel Down was excavated here in the 19th century, and there are also several isolated inhumations and Anglo-Saxon barrow burials from the parish. Domesday records three manor houses in the Shalfleet area. The VASLE dataset is derived from the EMC and PAS.
