Open Area 39 is bounded to the east by ditch 25199 (Figure 6). As exposed within Excavation Area W, this is the only limit evident. It may be assumed that it more-or-less extends south as far as the terrace edge and perhaps has a similar extent to that of OA40. Its function as a large field (arable?) is highly likely; only a single pit is identified within its interior.
Small, oval pit 2487 is the only feature judged to occupy the interior of OA39 in Period 2B. Its shallow cut contains a charcoal-rich fill and a single burnt flint.
