Table 5: Pollen zones for Cwm Cilio
Zone CC1: 115–97cm Alnus-Poaceae
Arboreal pollen dominates, mainly Alnus with lesser amounts of Quercus, Corylus avellana type and Betula. Poaceae and Cyperaceae pollen dominate the non-arboreal pollen. Other herb taxa include Plantago lanceolata, Potentilla type and Succisa. Small peaks in charcoal concentrations occur.
Zone CC2: 97–74cm Poaceae
Poaceae and other herb taxa predominate. Plantago lanceolata, Potentilla type, Ranunculus type and Filipendulaare well represented. Arboreal values fall significantly but increase towards the end of the zone. Aquatics include Hydrocotyle
Zone CC3: 74–56 cm Poaceae-Filipendula
Arboreal values decline. Poaceae and herbs dominate, in particular Filipendula. Pteridium increases then declines. Charcoal concentrations peak during the zone.
Zone CC4: 56–16cm Poaceae-Plantago lanceolata
Poaceae values remain high and Plantago lanceolata and Potentilla-type values increase. Calluna values increase slightly.
